Joe Waskel

Rest in Peace Friend!

So glad all us card playing buddies got to see him recently. It still stands out how firm his handshake was and how he asked about "our" golf game. I don't know if I've ever encountered someone as "nice' as him, even when it was in the heat of battle during card games! Kathy mentioned that she thought he had such a dry sense of humor (in a good way).

I first started working with Joe in the mid 1980's at AT&T. I was a Design Specialist and he was a Service Manager on the Greyhound National Account Team. I think he handled the Dial subsidiary while his good buddy Dan Zientek handled Greyhound. Don't hold me to those facts as many moons have passed. I do remember that his "friend" Dan often accused him of driving home after work with the sun in his eyes because he lived on the east side of the valley. LOL!

Anyway, he always attended our monthly lunch card games even after retiring in the 1990's. This in spite of having to drive at least an hour to meet us. Now that I look back upon it, maybe his innocents contributed to him winning so many card games of Hearts. *%^#$%^@#$

He was a terrible golfer, but fit right in with the U-HACK golf league. This league has tried to include anyone who wants have some fun along with some more serious players. Here's a picture of him and some other hackers at Legacy (Ron, Cecil, Vic, Larry, Dan and Joe) in 2006.

Like I mentioned before, I don't recall things a good as in earlier years. I do remember some very good things he had to say about his son who was a soccer referee? I also remember him saying he had some medical issues. These subjects came up when talking about family.

Marie, please forgive me if I have misspoke. I guess what I'm trying to say is he thought a lot about his family.

And so, I'll attend his Interment on Friday October, 28, 2016 at 11 AM at the National Cemetery on Pinnacle Peak Road and Cave Creek Road. I'm looking forward to sharing stories with others about Joe and corrections of my memories. More details should be posted at buelermortuary.com .

Marie, Joe Waskel was a very good man! Kathy & I wish you peace for you and your family.
